  • In 1961 was the co founder of the Interlock Group, manufacturers of products to support, control and secure doors and windows. By 1973 had achieved a monopoly in NZ with every brand of window using exclusively Interlock friction stays and other products. By 1985 Interlock were exporting to 35 countries and all of the top 12 window brands in Japan were using Interlock hardware, still the only imported components widely used by the Japanese window industry. As Executive Chairman of the Group Stuart travelled through over 60 countries, some over 50 times, establishing sales distribution and licensed manufacture. Awarded the Queen's 1990 Commemoration Medal for services to exporting.
  • 1994 to 1999 appointed by the Government as a Non Executive Director of the Reserve Bank of New Zealand.
  • Fellow of both the NZ Institute of Management and The Institute of Directors and is an Honorary Life Member of the NZ Window Federation.
  • Retired in 1995 and now spends much of his time travelling overseas or sailing around the New Zealand coast and the Pacific Islands.

JEFF LEE

  • Jeff was born in UK where, from a Grammar School education, he joined Bata Shoe Organisation in 1959 and for whom he worked until 2001. Before leaving UK in 1966 he had married Betty in 1963. Together with their two children, daughter Diane born in UK in 1965 and son Michael born in Uganda in 1967, they remained a cohesive family unit in East Africa (1966-1975), India (1975-1979) and briefly in Canada before arriving in New Zealand in January 1980. Their children completed their secondary and university education in New Zealand, where Diane now lectures at Victoria University and Michael is a business manager with Landcare Research in Christchurch. Jeff was awarded an MBA in 1997 from Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh through a distance learning programme.
  • Jeff was first a Rotarian with Wellington South (1980-1984), during which time Bill Boyd was a club member, then at Mount Lavinia, Sri Lanka (1984-1988) where he was Club President 1986-1987. He joined Port Nicholson during Peter Whittington's 2001/2002 Presidential year, introduced by Gillian Robertson.
  • Jeff retains connections with Bata in New Zealand and Australia as well as through occasional consultancy assignments elsewhere. He does voluntary work with the Anglican church in New Zealand and Papua New Giunea, the Wellington City Mission as well as having an interest in an Anglican church school project in Tanzania.

  • Bill is a Marketing and Communications professional. As a career banker (33 years) he retired in 1999 from a senior position as Westpac's Manager Group Corporate Relations. He was CEO and Trustee of New Zealand Community Trust for 6 years and has holds a number of Trustee/directorships.
  • In his role in marketing at Westpac he instigated the well known Westpac Rescue Helicopter sponsorship in Wellington in 1981 with the late Peter Button and then latterly Auckland, Canterbury and Waikato services. Bill has been a Trustee of Life Flight Trust since 1982 and has been Chair since 2000.

PAULA SMITH


  • A position with Textiles NZ in February 2005 brought Paula back into the textiles industry.
  • Head of school of Fashion and Food at Wellington Polytechnic (now Massey University) for more than a decade preceded by a similar period as a tutor where her speciality was in design, women's patternmaking, and textiles meant that Paula was not only instrumental in the careers of some of today's leading fashion designers both here in New Zealand and abroad, but also while in her management role, her link to employers, suppliers, and the wider industry made her a valuable and influential figure within the fashion design and apparel industry at the time.
  • In 1998 Paula graduated with an MBA from Victoria University.
  • Between graduation and being employed by Textiles NZ Paula has worked mainly in management positions outside the Textiles industry.
  • Paula has been a member of the Rotary Club of Port Nicholson since February 1992, is a past President of the club, and was awarded a Paul Harris Fellow in 2006.
